The Holy Prophet (s) worshipped Allah Almighty a lot even before the declaration of his prophethood. He used to visit the cave of Hira in order to get full devotion in worship. During the worship in this cave, Hazrat Jibreel came to the Holy Prophet with the first revelation from Allah. All the Prophet's life was devoted for the worship of Allah. He always remained busy in praying to Allah Almighty. He was very fond of reciting the Holy Quran. Along with the obligatory fasts, he used to keep the posthumous fasts too.
i. Love for Worship
The feet of Holy Prophet (s) often swelled due to standing a lot for worship and prayers. People often used to say, why do you bear so much pain while you are free of all sins i.e. you are innocent.
The Holy Prophet said
"Should I not be a grateful servant?"(Jami at-Tirmidhi: 412)
Prayer is the best and noblest of all acts of worship. The Holy Prophet (s) loved prayer so much that he declared it to be the cooling for his eyes. The joy, happiness and calmness that the Holy Prophet found in prayer, it was not obtained in any other worship. Hazrat Ayesha Siddiqa said about the night worship of Holy Prophet:
The Messenger of Allah used to sleep in the early part of the night. Then he would get up and stay and do Suhoor and read With near Suhoor, then he would go to his bed. Then when he heard the call for prayer (Fajr), he would get up quick ."(Sahih Bukhari: 1146
Hazrat Ayesha Siddiqa says that when the last decade of Ramadan came, the Holy Prophet would pray and used to ask his family members to pray too.
ii. Moderation and Temperance
The religion of Islam also orders moderation and temperance in worship. Moderation in worship means that a person should worship Allah, pay the rights of His servants and also take care of his health and needs. If a man spends every moment of his life as per the command of Allah and the Holy Prophet , then even that time is counted as worship.
The Prophet ordered moderation and temperance in worship. Hazrat Abdullah bin Umro narrated that the Prophet came to me and said: Is this news true that you worship all night and fast during the day? I said: Yes, that is correct. The Prophet said,
"Don't do this, do pray and take rest, keep fast and eat and drink, because your body also has a right over you, and those who come to meet you also have a right over you. Your wife also has a right over you.(Sahih Bukhari 6134)
Hazrat Muhammad's teachings created a spiritual revolution in the land of Arabia. The piece of land where idol-worshipping had become common and the remembrance of Allah was completely lost from hearts, their thoughts turned towards the worship of Allah. We should enlighten our hearts with the remembrance of Allah Almighty and fill our nights with the remembrance of Allah Almighty while getting guidance from the life of the Holy Prophet.
